Immigrants, Refugees & Ethnic Minorities
spacer_narrow.jpgThe birthrate is falling while the number of elderly people is increasing in most European countries.

In the near future there will be a shortage of working people.

If Europe is to avoid becoming a giant old people's home, we have to open our gates to millions of new immigrants.

The EU Commission also sees it as a serious problem that over the last 10 years, thousands of  people have died trying to cross the Mediterranean from Africa to Europe.

Therefore the EU Commission is calling on the Youth Council to consider:

  • Whether or not there is or will be a shortage of working people in the future

  • How the European community can improve the integration of immigrants, refugees and ethnic minorities to avoid xenophobia and racism

  • How we can avoid so many people desperately trying to get into Europe from Africa
